There are more over 50 VVER reactors operating in the world now. These reactors have already proved their effectiveness, economy and safety and now continue their successful evolution. There are NPPs with new designs of the units (AES-2006 and VVER-TOI) that are under construction and also are planned to be constructed in Russia and abroad.
JSC «EREC» activity in the VVER research area is to perform calculated experimental studies directed on justification of new design decisions and also in engineering at design, construction and operation of NPP.
The experiments are carrying out in the following areas:
- Experimental studies at full-scale integral test facilities simulating VVER reactor for the purpose of justification of design decisions providing enhancing of economic effectiveness of power units as well as tests of accidents management procedures, data acquisition for validation of improved estimation codes.
- Experimental studies at small- and full-scale facilities which are modelling single systems or VVER equipment’s elements for the purpose of justification of project decisions and to obtain test data for advanced estimation of Codes' validation..
- Acceptance tests of prototype and serial models of equipment intended for subsequent use on the NPPs with VVER.
Experimental studies are accompanied by calculated analysis of thermal-hydraulic processes carried out both by calculation facilities of outside developers and by own-designed three-dimension calculation facilities.
Within rendering engineering services development and examination of normative, methodical and operational documentation is carried out.
