Electrogorsk Research and Development Center for Nuclear Power Plants Safety (ENIC JSC) is the modern name of one the oldest research institutions of nuclear industry of Russia. Its history dates back to 1956, when, by the initiative of the academician G.M Krzhizhanovsky, it was decided to create a system of large-scale Test Facilities, for experimental studies of non-nuclear problems of design and operation of equipment for NPP with water-cooled reactors. In accordance with USSR Council of Ministers Decree № 6992-р of 01.12.1956 and Ministry of Electric Power Plants Decree №3 of 07.02.1957, the Experimental Research Laboratory (ERL) of Glavatomenergo, Ministry of Construction of Power Plant was founded in Electrogorsk (Moscow region) on the basis of the Federal District Power Station No.3 (GRES-3). Until 1976, JSC «EREC» was known as ERL, and from 1976 to 1994 – as Electrogorsk Research and Testing Station (ERTS) – a branch of «NPO Energiya». In 1994, on the basis of ERTS, it was established the «EREC» (Electrogorsk Research and Engineering Center on NPP Safety) as a subsidiary of VNIIAES (All-Russian Institute of Nuclear Power Plant Operation). In 2003, the Decrees of Ministry of Property №3899-p of 10.09.2003 and Ministry of Atomic Energy of Russia №554-p of 15.09.2003 approved The Statute of EREC as legal successor of FSUDE EREC VNIIAES. The FSUE «EREC» was attached with a status of extremely radiation-dangerous object by Russian Federation Governmental Decree №2186-р of 09.12.2005. The FSUE «EREC» was registered in The State Register of Rostekhnadzor №A02-30752 of 16.01.2006 as a hazardous production facility.
The FSUE «EREC» was reorganized into JSC «EREC» following the Decree of President of Russian Federation №556 of 27.04.2007 «On Restructuring of Russia’s Nuclear Power Industry» and the Decree of Government of Russian Federation №319 of 26.05.2007 «On Measures to Establish JSC «Nuclear Power Industry Complex»».
In accordance with JSC « Nuclear Power Industry Complex» Decision №7 of 06.11.2009 and Board of Directors of JSC «Concern Rosenergoatom» Protocol of Meeting №48 of 04.03.2010, the last mentioned became an owner of 100% shares of authorized capital of JSC «EREC».
10.11.2014 due to the Article 1 of the Federal Law of 05.05.2014 No. 99-FZ «On Modification of Part One Chapter 4 of the Civil Code of Russian Federation and On Concerning the Annulment of Certain Acts of Legislation of Russian Federation») Joint Stock Company (Open) «Electrogorsk Research and Engineering Center on NPP Safety» was renamed into Joint Stock Company «Electrogorsk Research and Engineering Center on NPP Safety» (JSC EREC).
The results achieved by the Center were marked by Presidential Gratitude «for outstanding contribution to nuclear industry development» (Order of President of Russian Federation №202/рп of 21.04.2008).
